Bulky items collection
Donate your items
It is always better to give your items to someone else to use rather than recycling or disposing of them. There are plenty of ways to do this, either by giving them away for a small price or free of charge on sites such as eBay, Freegle, Freecycle, Gumtree or various Facebook community groups.
If you have good-quality items to donate, such as furniture, local charity shops are happy to accept these. And many offer a free collection service. Contact British Heart Foundation, DEBRA or Emmaus.
Bulky items collection
We provide a paid collection service for unwanted bulky household items. A bulky item is considered to be anything you could take with you when moving home. For example, free-standing items such as beds, wardrobes, settees, fridges and cookers.
Please note: Building material, or anything that is part of the fabric of the house, such as rubble, car parts and kitchen units, are not considered to be bulky household items.
From 1 April 2019 the following charges apply:
- Up to three items £34, Dacorum Card holder £28
- Up to six items £61, Dacorum Card holder £43
- Over six items, or unusual items, a quoted collection may be possible.
Book a collection
We are not currently accepting any new Bulky Waste Collection bookings. If you already have a booking, this will be collected.
Due to the current coronavirus (COVID-19) situation, we are running a limited waste service. This page will be updated when bookings reopen. Thank you for your understanding.
In order to get a refund, any booking cancellations must be completed by midday the day before the collection date. If we have already collected part of your order no refund can be given. (This means that if you have a collection booked for a Friday, the cancellation must be made no later than midday Thursday.)
Take your items to a recycling centre
You can also take bulky household items and garden waste to the Household Waste Recycling Centres free of charge. These are located at Eastman Way, Hemel Hempstead and Northbridge Road, Berkhamsted.
Please note: These centres are currently open for essential visits only and are accepting limited materials and items. Check the Hertfordshire County Council website for up to date information.
