Power cut advice

What to do

In the event of a power cut, contact UK Power Networks 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Extra support

If you need extra support during a power cut or know someone else (such as a relative, neighbour, patient, or friend) that does, then you may be entitled to sign up to UK Power Networks' Priority Services Register (PSR).

Check if you qualify

You can register for the PSR if you or someone in your household:

  • relies on medical equipment
  • have refrigerated medicines
  • have a serious or chronic illness
  • have a disability
  • is living with dementia
  • are of pensionable age
  • have children under five in your household
  • have mental health difficulties.

Support available

PSR support during a power cut includes:

  • a priority number you can call 24 hours a day
  • text and voice message alerts, letting you know when UK Power Networks is aware of a large power cut in your area
  • tailored support if needed - such as home visits, hot meals, advice and keeping your friends and relatives updated
  • text and voice messages to let you know of upcoming severe weather to help you prepare
  • for complex power cuts UK Power Networks' community welfare teams will provide on-site support, which includes hot drinks, hot meals, a WiFi connection and charge points.
